Oasis Art Symposium 2015

Last weekend I was a guest artist / speaker at the third annual Oasis Art Symposium created by the Kelowna FCA chapter. There was a juried art exhibit, lectures and a discussion panel along with live demos. The day went quickly as the participates were generous of spirit, inquisitive and energetic. I attended a few of such gatherings a year but this one had a wonderful grass roots openness that gave birth to an exchange of ideas. Artist, Janice Robertson gaveRead more

Show and Tell Exhibition in Cabo, Mexico

The Ida Art Victoria Gallery, March 19th 2014: The gallery held a Brent Lynch solo show along with a visual presentation of my work the other night. The attendance enjoyed some appetisers, wine and good conversation before we began the presentation of my artistic exploits and history. I spoke of my relationship with Cabo that dates back to the early 80′s. I first discovered the Baja on a surf and windsurf trip in 1979 and fell for its austere beautyRead more

Exhibition,’Wild and Sacred Places’ 2015

Charlie Easton, Nicholas Bott and myself are featured in an exhibition at the ‘Mountain Gallery at the Fairmont’ in Whistler from January 10th through to the 24 th. If you are in the area please drop in.  My collection of paintings are a kind of  ’Ode to Whistler’…. big part of my youth and later Blackcomb / Whistler became a long time client as a professional artist.  I created artistic event posters and paintings through the early 80 and 90′s and watchedRead more

20th annual ‘Painters at Painters’ 2014

It was hard to believe a year had come and gone as I walked into Painters lobby and met artists I hadn’t seen or spoken with since. I’ve been involved for two years and already the P@P gig is a marker for me. That’s the power of this unique event. I am always re-energized after spending time with this powerful group of creative people. Back in the studio once again I reflect on the good crack (conversation) and exchange ofRead more

El Triunfo, An Old Haunt Re-Discovered

I just returned from a town that has haunted me since the early 80′s. When I  first discovered El Triunfo it was a true Mexican ghost town. Nestled in the Serria Laguna Mountains in southern Baja  you’d be hard pressed to run into a living soul back then… just you and the whispering mountain winds bringing voices from the past. The town was old, ancient abandoned 18th century facades of  buildings and haciendas prove it. She was an old silverRead more

The FCA Whistler Workshop 2013

A ‘welcome song’ sung by a lovely first nation young woman drum in hand opened the final evening workshop banquet. We were served a fine salmon dinner in the Lil’wat Cultural Centre; an architect’s contemporary vision of a traditional pit house….beautiful. I reflected back on the last 6 days during a solo performance from fellow artist Dennis Weber;  a lonely but beautiful flute lament. I looked around the room and could see that nobody really wanted to go home. IRead more

West Coast Inside Passage – 2013

If you haven’t sailed up the inside passage put it on your bucket list. I had the opportunity to do just that with an old friend, Paul Robillard on his fine 40 ft boat. Jim Sumi, another old friend joined us near Malaspina Strait in his boat for the long journey north; a wonderful opportunity to catch up on each others lives – our convoy.  I have done the trip twice before in my life. Once when I was youngRead more

Saturna & Quadra, July 2013

Saturna and Quadra Painting trip; Campers and Kayaks 2013. I was out in the wilds of the most gentle islands in the world for the last few weeks. The weather was clear and fine the landscapes, psychedelic. My friend Terry dragged me to the island kicking and screaming but then….Saturna is a mystical place. Great walls of sandstone guard the ragged shores crowned with ‘Hanging Gardens of Babylon’ cedars and exotic arby trees. The ultimate vehicle to enter this worldRead more

Painters @ Painters 2013

Every May long weekend for the last 19 years prominent artists have gathered together at Painters Lodge. To become one of the members there is a process where you must apply and then be ‘voted in’ by the core group. There are unfortunately, member artists that have passed on in the last 20 years and they are the ‘who’s who in the zoo’ of BC art. Each year a new artist is chosen to balance the attrition. One way orRead more
